Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate-Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE)

Protein separation by SDS-PAGE can be used to estimate relative molecular mass between 5 and 250 kDa, to determine the relative abundance of major proteins in a sample, and to determine the distribution of proteins among fractions by electrophoresis method. The use of sodium dodecyl sulfate and polyacrylamide gel largely eliminates the influence of the structure and charge, and proteins are separated solely based on polypeptide chain length.
